Killing Time
America used to assassinate better people. People who inspired social change. People who gave strength and hope to those who needed it most. Ideologues like Charlie Kirk were at best afterthoughts, working the fringes, whipping up the faithful.
We are a million miles from that time. The Trump years have solidified reactionary fantasies. I have relatives who think Trump is a god. I'm not exaggerating. And they are far from alone.
Trump feeds these fantasies on a daily basis. He blames Kirk's death on "left-wing terrorist networks." There are no left-wing terrorist networks, unless he's referring to groups like the Weather Underground which has been extinct since the mid-70s. And even then all they did was bomb office buildings.
Kirk's death is being used to further strengthen the American police state. Not that reactionaries need an excuse. Liberals will do nothing about it. They offer no real resistance, have no political spine. Their societal function is to raise money for the Democratic Party. Liberals are political window dressing and largely useless.
I've never understood the Kirk phenomenon. He seemed to be a cheap political hustler, possessed of a mediocre mind. But then I've been out of the game for years, tapping back in when the mood strikes. When Kirk was killed, I basically shrugged. I didn't care one way or another.
There's speculation that Israel was behind Kirk's assassination as punishment for leaving the Zionist fold. It wouldn't surprise me, given Israel's grisly record and contempt for human life. And the Kirk hit seemed like a professional job. If indeed it was a crazed civilian, he either spends a lot of time at the shooting range or got incredibly lucky.
So far there's no solid evidence. Mossad is good at covering its tracks. But what is clear is that we've entered a much darker period, if that's possible. I'd rather not be back in the game, yet all of us are in it whether we like it or not.
