Fuck patriotism.

Patriotism is the precursor to fascism. Don’t believe me? Who was more patriotic than the Germans under Hitler?

Anytime you wave nationalist flags, insist on a unified identity, warn that internal dissidents are undermining the national will, you have fascism. I concede that Trump’s followers aren’t as well dressed as German Nazis, but then their Hugo Boss couture is cheaply made and sold to suckers.

Fascism has seen more stylish days.

Trump’s insistence on fealty owes more to his increasingly demented mental state than any official policy. His followers are some of the stupidest people I’ve ever seen, and I lived through the Reagan years. I can see defending him for political favors or potential business opportunities, but I also understand why vultures feed on carrion.

The whole “No Kings” conceit is yet another liberal fantasy. They have no problem with kings. Obama is the most recent example. We are, my loves, in the thick of it. How we get out of it is beyond my aging understanding. I’m happy to see younger people protest, yet I fear it’s too little, too late. The beasts are winning with no serious opposition. Assimilation is more or less complete.

But other than that, I’m happy.
